Did anyone record the Claire Lynch Band's workshop at Podunk last year? Rounder would like to use some of what Jim Hurst said during that workshop in the liner notes for the band's next album. If you didn't but know someone who did, please let me know that as well.

Late Saturday Night with Natalie McMaster is going to be so hot! I'm not sure what the purests would say about it, but I think it's going to be great. She is so talented and such a great entertainer. Great job, Roger! Just when you might think it was going to get predictable, you come up with something new.

Band Competition Information

The bands have been selected for the 2009 Podunk band competition which takes place on Sunday August 2nd. Additional information, prizes and rules are located on the website band competition page. The 2008 winner Gold Heart will be appearing on our main stage and we have another great lineup for 2009. There are also workshops on Saturday that are free to the Sunday bands, and on a pay basis for festival attendees.

Bluegrass Night at Arch Street Tavern?

Hey Everyone, just wanted to check in and see if there would be any interest in a Bluegrass night on Tuesday's at the Arch Street Tavern in Hartford?

On Wednesdays we have a large Irish session lead by P.V. O'Donnell, stop in and check it out! We would like to set up the same sort of thing for a Bluegrass night.

"Sound reinforcement"

Congratulations Roger on another great festival! We'll be back next year.

But one thing bothered me enough that I've been mentioning it to everyone I discuss the festival with. I may be in the minority here, but I felt as if much of the sound from the main stage was aimed over the seating area and out into the park beyond. It was loud enough to interfere with the workshop stage and made it impossible to pick at our campsites when a band was onstage. Did anyone else feel that way?

Increasing attendance.

Message boards for other festivals have been very busy for weeks if not months concerning festival activities. Podunk's board is virtually silent. Where is everyone?

I see a few changes have been made. Offsite workshops, no breakfast served. Will venders be serving breakfast. Coffee at least. Is the parking area "leased" or is it owned by the city? For attendees with RV's, going to a workshop offsite could be a hassle. Suppose a person attending on a day pass leaves his/her car in the parking area, gets to jamming and forgets the time. Think they will be happy to find their car TOWED from a bluegrass festival.

I know Roger works hard to make this festival a success and I do not mean to take anything away from all his hard work. Hate to rant like this BUT, after attending other festivals and seeing the large number of attendees with a less than stellar line-up compared to Podunk's, makes me wonder WHY.

Looking forward to seeing everyone once again.

Help Us Fill the field

The Podunk team has worked all year to put together a musical event that showcases the best in bluegrass. We need each person reading this message to tell your friends about Podunk and encourage them to check out the "Best Kept Secret in Bluegrass". It's great to attend the large festivals but if we don't support the smaller ones like Podunk they will disappear.
It is as simple as that.

How Are Going To Get More People?

So the big question I have for everyone is how do we get more people to attend Podunk. I know some people are happy with the size the festival is now but in order for us to continue our top notch line-ups we need to be able to pay for the performers. It's just a nasty rumor that they work for free.

We have increased our advertising in some select publications can you tell us where you have seen our ads?

If you are planning on attending other Bluegrass events before Podunk would you be interested in taking Podunk Flyers and either passing them out or putting them out with other flyers? Please contact me if you are interested and we will mail you as many as you think you can get out into people's hands.

I'd just like to say a huge thank you to everyone at Podunk for making my trip worthwhile. All the staff and volunteers did a fabulous job in making this visitor from the UK feel so very welcome.
